John has touched the lives of many students and influenced them in many positive ways. The episodes, encounters and experiences shared by many (including our first cohort who knew him for more than 30 years) offer convergent validity of who this wonderful man is. John has been my teacher, co-author, co-consultant, colleague, and most of all, my friend. He played an indirect but important role in my career choice to move from the police force to academia two years after I obtained my honours degree. We all miss him dearly, and I know what he wants of us is to turn our grief and gratitude to paying forward and making a positive difference to the lives of others in our own ways. David Chan
